Trusting Covenants Childrens

In today's world and society having a trusted hospital who cares just for kids nearby is one thing that many of us may not realize we need till we really need it. I have partnered with Covenant Children's to cover a few things about the hospital that makes it THE pediatric care destination for West Texas and eastern New Mexico.

Covenant Children's is the only licensed freestanding children's hospital in the region, and I am lucky enough to be close by and use it. The hospital has over 21 departments which is outstanding itself considering that it is a children's hospital. They have many specialized doctors and nurses for almost anything that you can think of because they believe in caring for the whole child which includes the body, mind, and spirit. Especially with the world today, having Covenant Children's nearby gives me that peace of mind that there will always be someone around who will be able to care for any medical need for all four of my children.

To help make ongoing improvements they have a Patient and Family Advisory Council that consists of former patients, their family members, and staff.

In this blog post I will be sharing about a few departments that mean the world to me and are truly amazing parts of this hospital.

When you have an emergency concerning your child it is easy to just think of going to any emergency room but why not go to a children's emergency room when you have the choice. Covenant Children's ER is open 24/7 and consists of 12 rooms and 2 trauma bays. They are staffed with physicians and registered nurses that are specifically trained in pediatric emergency care. So, while you can go to any emergency room and be dealing with not only pediatric care and adult care the Covenant Children's Emergency Room tends to have shorter wait times because they are only dealing with pediatric patients.

When reading about the departments that Covenant Children's offers, I was excited to read about their pet therapy department. Covenant allows pet handlers and their pets to come and visit the children in the hospital because while they might not be their own pet having them around brings some comfort of their own home into the hospital. So, not only can it make their hospital experience better it also has some therapeutic benefits.

The last department I will be talking about is their two pediatric intensive care units which include their neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and their pediatric intensive care unit (PICU).

Their NICU is specifically for newborns who need intensive medical care. Covenant Children's NICU consists of 43 beds and is a level IV NICU which is the highest designation in the state of Texas. Their 43 beds are equipped with NICVIEW webcam system, which is my favorite part. It allows parent to have live streams of their newborns that can be accessed via a web page or on a phone app.

The PICU, which is designed for children of all ages excluding newborns, is a 20-bed unit that is staffed with physicians, nurses, and specialists that are trained in caring for children in serious and life-threatening conditions. Of course, the PICU also has a Pediatric Intensivist on the unit 24 hours a day.

With both intensive care units, I know that if my older kids or newborn ends up in any kind of serious condition that Covenant Children's has a place just for them.

If you are located in West Texas or eastern New Mexico I want you to know that Covenant Children's is my trusted destination for any kind of medical emergency.
